BEHIND RB&Y

Ayanna Cooper, a recent graduate from Savannah College fo Art & Design (SCAD) and an MFA student at SCAD, is the creator and main contributor to Rhythm, Blues & You (RB&Y). Cooper, known for shuffling the same playlist on Apple Music for the last four years, decided it was time to critique the music she has not only been listening to but hearing as well.

RB&Y doesn’t care for the drama. We care for the sound.

Founded in 2023 to make a difference in the music space.

RB&Y's goal is to critique and suggest R&B-related content to users. To be timely, the blog would discuss recent albums, provide song suggestions, and reviews, discuss trends in music, and ultimately provide the latest sounds to add to a playlist. Rhythm, Blues, & You aims to provide a space where music isn’t just about listening but hearing too.

While a lot of R&B blogs focus on music, they also tend to shift and focus on the drama in the industry. While this can be interesting, it can be tacky based on execution and bias. I, Cooper, would like to provide insight into what sounds good based on analyzing the elements used to construct the narratives that these songs tell. While it can be important to discuss the artist and art, the focus of RB&Y will be on the art.

Cooper looks forward to hearing your feedback, critiquing your most recent sound (if you're an emerging artist), and potentially interviewing you. Please submit a contact form if interested. RB&Y will be in contact.
