Coi Leray's Wasted is the perfect song for newly Leray fans. This song provides the perfect transition from Coi's old aggressive in your face sound to her new subtle, dancey, and direct music.
Me, The Hive, and Coi Leray on a loop
I have listened to Coi Leray since my freshman year of college. Even after I received a lot of side eye from friends for doing so. Throughout the week there was no doubt that I would be sitting at my desk in the Hive (living space for SCAD kids) lip syncing to Coi on Snapchat. I have a distinctive memory of yelling out her lyrics while eating a grilled chicken sandwich at my desk in Bumble (a building in the Hive that I mentioned before). I would provide proof, but I'm actually embarrassed at how into that sandwich and the song I was at the time. An aggressive head nod and hard chews of tough meat...not a cute look.
Throughout the years, Coi has been called several names such as corny or "not it" and with her sound changing, she's no longer been referred to as corny (woohoo). In fact, she has several songs that are trendy TikTok sounds and she is receiving her flowers for being Coi Leray and not just the family drama or creating music people just don't like for whatever reason.
You may know Coi's voice from these TikTok sounds:
1. "I just wanna have a good night"
This is probably the most recently trending sound of her's. Here is a direct TikTok of Coi and her dancers, dancing to this song as they prepare for Rolling Loud. Interested in sing this live? Here's another link from genius' TikTok!
2. "Go Best Friend!"
It's crazy how hold this song is. I didn't realize until I sat down to create this list for you all. Here is a direct link to a "Go Best Friend" excerpt comp. Rights belong to their rightful owners.
There are several more sounds from a few of Coi's recently released songs that can of course be found on TikTok. Check out Coi Leray's TikTok here to see more content from the artist.
Why You Should Listen to Wasted
Wasted goes through the story of pouring too much energy into someone who never deserved it. They have drained all of the energy from their partner, leaving them feeling as if the time and energy they've invested into the relationship is wasted. What I love about this song is that it fits perfectly into the R&B community and it dropped late last year in December which allows it be added to any beginning of 2023/new music playlist.
Here is a teaser of Wasted released late last year on Coi's TikTok.
While the video was released two months ago, this will be our (yes, this will be my first time seeing it too) first time watching it together.
I love engaging with you all, so here is a poll just to get a better understand of your experience with the artist and if my blog post has provided any insight to your learning.
